• Barefoot Hiking

I started hiking barefoot this year and love it! So thought, why not try offering a barefoot hike event and give people a chance to meet the forest therapist (and each other) in the process? I have some general info on going barefoot here: https://hudsonvalleyforesttherapy.com/barefoot/ This is a free event (donations welcome and help support Hudson Valley Forest Therapy) and is open to any experience level. If you have never hiked barefoot, you need to do the following: Look over https://hudsonvalleyforesttherapy.com/barefoot/ Walk in your yard or local park barefoot 5-10 minutes a day this week (this hike should not be your first time trying!) Expect to be wearing your shoes…

  • Forest Therapy Walk at Buddhist Monastery in Carmel Area

I am happy to announce that the Chuang Yen Monastery is once again open to visitors. This was one of my personal favorite spaces and all my attendees seemed to feel the same. I checked the space out, and while most buildings (including the dining hall) remain closed, the outdoor space I typically used is open. This walk will be on monastery grounds. This is not a Buddhist event, nor do we have any affiliation with the monastery, HOWEVER, please respect their preference for modest clothing (no shorts, tank tops, or overly revealing outfits) and if you pack food, keep it vegetarian. Cost: $20 (sliding scale for those in need)…

  • Forest Therapy at Beacon Memorial Park

Let’s try someplace new!  I had a nice stroll through Memorial Park in Beacon NY and it seemed easy to access with plenty of parking.  Not huge, but as long as there are no big events going on we should have plenty of space to do out thing, and there are many lovely trees there. Masks are now optional during the event, but I ask that we all maintain adequate social distancing.  I will be wearing my mask as I greet everyone, and get the usual waivers signed.  (I am fully vaccinated with my second booster.) When: Saturday, June 18th 10a-12p.  Please arrive at least 5 minutes early. Location: Beacon…

  • Forest Therapy at Hubbard Lodge, Cold Spring

I hope all have been safe and well during these odd times. It looks like it is about time to begin offering forest therapy again. I can use the practice and I need to get a feel for how to do this with COVID safety measures in place. That means…. * Face-covering/mask mandatory (when not off on your own) * Social distancing – 6 feet apart. * Check temperature before coming. (If over 100.4 degrees and/or if showing symptoms please stay home.) (I am fully vaccinated) We will meet at the picnic bench in front of the lodge. The road is 1 minute north of the Rt 9/Rt 301 traffic…

  • Forest Therapy Walk on Undercliff-Nelsonville Trail loop in Cold Spring

The loop we will be using begins and ends on Secor Street in Cold Spring, a block off of Route 301. For those who are familiar with the trail system, we will be starting on the Undercliff Trail and then looping back on the Nelsonville Trail. This loop is considered an easy trail and would take around 35-40 minutes to walk as a non-stop hike. The trail is relatively even and well maintained with some minor inclines, but some spots have loose rocks so may not be suitable for those with mobility challenges or balance concerns. We will be walking the loop slowly with several stops for sharing and forest…
